Instructional Technology Integration
What's the difference between technology use and technology integration? In my opinion, the difference between technology use and integration is based on the students' participation. Technology use would seem to be when the teacher uses technologies to present the lesson and to organize the classroom. For example, these would be such things as online grade books or teaching with a PowerPoint presentation. However, technology integration would be when students are actually utilizing the technology within the classroom to enhance their own learning. These could be activities such as an online blog centralized on the curriculum or online labs such as MyEducationLab.com or MyMathLab.

I also agree that the difference between technology integration and technology use is the role the students play in each. Technology integration is a way the teacher can present lesson material to the students. In technology use, the students are actually working with the technology in class and learning from it.
ReplyDeleteI agree with what you say that the student's participation is a key factor in determining the difference between technology use and technology integration. I like that you give examples of things within the classroom that are examples of both terms. I definitely agree that students in technology use are utilizing the technology to help their learning.
ReplyDeleteThanks for allowing me to be a part of your blog. You seem to have a clear understanding regarding the difference between "use" and "integration" of technology. Student "involvement" with most any learning activity goes a long way toward their "owning" the knowledge gained.
ReplyDeleteTime continues to both introduce innovation and increase demands for task completion, not only locally but globally, as well. To that end, however, what are your thoughts regarding the need to ensure that our increasingly "digital native" students, who seemingly rely more heavily on technology performances each day, are also well trained on how to do things otherwise, just in case of ... (i.e., what to do in the event of a loss of power, the elimination of natural resources as we know them, etc.) ?
